VW BEETLE CHANGES IN YEAR 1966


Some Changes were made in the year 1966

1. New 1300cc 50hp engine is added - A one year only engine for the Beetle.
2. 1300 Badge is added to the rear engine lid.
3. Clutch cable guide is protected with a rubber hose.
4. Carburetor is now a 30 PICT-1, with a new jet arrangement.
5. The steering knuckle is connected to the torsion arms with maintenance free ball joints. The torsion leaf springs are increased from 8 to 10.
6. Frame head is modified to accommodate the improved suspension.
7. New slotted wheels are introduced in part to help with cooling of the drum brakes and Flat Hub Caps.
8. One key now operates the door and  the ignition.
9. Air vent was added to the center of the beetle’s windshield to help with de-misting.
10. Emergency Flasher is mounted on the dashboard.
11. Dimmer switch is moved to the turn signal lever.
12. Half Circle Horn Ring is re-introduced.
13. Windshield wipers now parked to the left of the windshield.
14. A new locking mechanism is incorporated into the front seats preventing them from tipping forward in the event of a collision.
15. Larger Rear View Mirror is added.
16. Rear view mirror is no longer incorporated into the sun visor mountings.

32 killed in Major tsunami after 8.9 Japan Quake

A powerful tsunami  earthquake in Japan's recorded history that hit the eastern coast Friday, sweeping away boats, cars, homes and people as widespread fires burned out of control. Authorities said at least 32 people were killed.
